Intriguing Choice Mint State Error "Plumed Hat" DollarRepublic Yuan Shih-kai "Plumed Hat" Dollar ND (1914) MS64 PCGS, Tientsin mint, KM-Y322, L&M-858, Kann-642, WS-0094. Double struck reverse variety. First off, the specimen in hand exudes an aura of imposing authority. His portrait is rendered in exacting precision and the aesthetics are further elevated by the fleeting instances of ice-blue toning nestling in the recesses amidst the taupe, uniformly patinated surfaces. Turning to the reverse, an intriguing apparent mint error is revealed in the central letters ("One Yuan") which appear doubly struck. For the collector's reference, Kann recorded a somewhat similar mint error to the L. Giorgi-signed pattern of this type, which purportedly showed distinct doubling in the eyes (Kann-642d). Covetable so choice and particularly so with the rarely encountered mint error.
